Belgian Waffle Ride North Carolina
The Belgian Waffle Ride (BWR) North Carolina 2023. Touted as the 'Hell of the North (Carolina),' this year's event was an epic mix of gravel, grit, and glory that took cyclists on a wild ride through the picturesque landscapes of Asheville, North Carolina. The weekend was kicked off with the BWR Expo, where we had the opportunity to connect with the gravel community. Amidst the hubbub of event preparations and race strategy discussions, we met an eclectic mix of professionals and amateur cyclists, fans, and spectators.
The 2023 edition of the BWR NC presented a challenging 130(ish) mile course featuring an intense blend of asphalt, gravel, dirt, grueling climbs, and white-knuckle descents. From farmlands to forestlands, through the Blue Ridge Mountains, the course offered more than just a test of mettle. It was a testament to the region's breathtaking beauty.
BWR prides itself on taking riders off the beaten track, and this year was no different. A nearly 30-mile section of relentless gravel roads was a testament to the event's reputation as one of the most challenging mixed-terrain races in the United States.
This year, we saw a diverse field of professional and amateur cyclists, each eager to test their resilience against the course and the competition. The atmosphere was electric - quintessential to the BWR experience.
In the men's division, the race was intense right from the start, with multiple breakaways and strategic plays keeping spectators on their toes.
Despite cramps, mechanical problems, and exhaustion from hours in the saddle. The weekend was brimming with moments, including the victories of Austin Killips and Adam Roberge. We celebrated their achievements while recognizing every participant's efforts to cross the line.
The Belgian Waffle Ride 2023 in North Carolina was more than a race. It celebrated cycling, endurance, and the stunning North Carolinian landscapes. With the perfect balance of challenge and charm, Belgian Waffle Ride North Carolina left riders and spectators eagerly awaiting next year's edition.
